FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
DO I NEED AN ORDER FROM MY PHYSICIAN?
In most cases, no! Tennessee is a Direct Access state, which means that you can see a physical therapist before seeing a physician. We can contact your physician if needed and send them paperwork. In most cases, visiting a physical therapist first for musculoskeletal injuries saves you time and money. If the physical therapist has any concerns or if no progress is being made, we will refer you to what we think is the next best step.
DO YOU TAKE MY INSURANCE?
Because we are cash-pay, we do not accept insurance. You can submit your receipts to your insurance company and contact them regarding their ability to pay for out-of-network service. You can also reimburse yourself with your receipt from your HSA.
WHY DON'T YOU TAKE INSURANCE?
Some of the most frequent complaints from patients in physical therapy are being passed around from therapist to therapist every visit and the therapist seeing multiple people at a time. When we take insurance out of the picture, we are able to provide one-on-one individualized care that is effective and efficient. You will know exactly what you will be paying before each visit and will not be receiving unexpected bills following treatment. Your visits are usually less frequent, which also means less time taken away from work and school. We believe you and your physical therapist should guide your individual treatment, not an insurance company.
HOW OFTEN WILL I HAVE THERAPY?
Most patients will be seen once a week or once every 2-3 weeks, depending on the condition and severity of symptoms. We believe that your body heals with the right inputs, and what you do the other 167 hours during the week hold much more impact than the one hour during the treatment session. It is our goal to guide and educate you as you navigate the healing process for YOUR body. Our treatment plan is based on how you are responding, not on a preconceived notion of a certain number of visits. Many patients only need 1-2 visits and can follow-up via text/phone/email.
CAN I GET BETTER IN FEWER VISITS?
In most cases, yes! When you are ready to take responsibility for your health, YOU are in the driver's seat. With one-on-one care, you get the education and time you need to understand the signals your body is sending you and the adjustments needed to restore functional movement.
WHAT DO I NEED TO WEAR/BRING?
Wear comfortable clothing that you can move in. If you're a runner, bring a pair of your most used running shoes.
WHAT IF I DON'T WANT TO TRANSITION TO NATURAL FOOTWEAR OR CHANGE MY RUNNING FORM?
You will never be forced to do anything! I can only tell you what has worked for myself and other patients and explain general biomechanics. Changing running mechanics or footwear is a journey you may or may not want to take. I mostly suggest patients experiment with walking barefoot once a day, sit on the floor once a day, or look at one part of their running form (head position and heel striking are usually the main ones). Although I must warn you...my life went down an entirely different trajectory simply because I decided to experiment with walking barefoot outside again several years ago!
